Chromosomal localization and molecular marker development of the lipopolysaccharide and beta-1,3-glucan binding protein gene in the Zhikong scallop Chlamys farreri (Jones et Preston) (Pectinoida, Pectinidae) Genet. Mol. Biol.
Huan,Pin; Zhang,Xiaojun; Li,Fuhua; Zhang,Yang; Zhao,Cui; Xiang,Jianhai.
Zhikong scallop Chlamys farreri (Jones et Preston) is an economically important species in China. Understanding its immune system would be of great help in controlling diseases. In the present study, an important immunity-related gene, the Lipopolysaccharide and Beta-1,3-glucan Binding Protein (LGBP) gene, was located on C. farreri chromosomes by mapping several lgbp-containing BAC clones through fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH). Through the localization of various BAC clones, it was shown that only one locus of this gene existed in the genome of C. farreri, and that this was located on the long arm of a pair of homologous chromosomes. Molecular markers, consisting of eight single nucleotide polymorphism (SNPs) markers and one insertion-deletion...

Complete genome sequence of acute viral necrosis virus associated with massive mortality outbreaks in the Chinese scallop, Chlamys farreri ArchiMer

Acute viral necrosis virus (AVNV) is the causative agent of a serious disease resulting in high mortality in cultured Chinese scallops, Chlamys farreri. We have sequenced and analyzed the complete genome of AVNV. The AVNV genome is a linear, double-stranded DNA molecule of 210,993 bp with a nucleotide composition of 38.5% G + C. A total of 123 open reading frames were predicted to encode functional proteins, ranging from 41 to 1,878 amino acid residues. The DNA sequence of AVNV is 97% identical to that of ostreid herpesvirus 1 (OsHV-1), and the amino acid sequences of the encoded proteins of these two viruses are 94-100% identical. The genomic organization of AVNV is similar to that of OsHV-1, and consists of two unique regions (170.4 kb and 3.4 kb,...

Modelling the effect of food depletion on scallop growth in Sungo Bay (China) ArchiMer
Bacher, Cedric; Grant, Jon; Hawkins, Anthony; Fang, Jianguang; Zhu, Mingyuan; Besnard, Melanie.
Sungo Bay (China) has a mean depth of 10 m, a total area of 140 km(2) and is occupied by several types of aquaculture, whilst opening to the ocean. The production of scallops (Chlamys farreri) cultured on long lines is estimated to exceed 50 000 tonnes (total weight) per year. Selection of sites for scallop growth and determination of suitable rearing densities have become important issues. In this study, we focused on the local scale (e.g. 1000 m) where rearing density, food concentration and hydrodynamics interact. We have developed a depletion model coupling a detailed model of C. farreri feeding and growth and a one-dimensional horizontal transport equation. The model was applied to assess the effect of some environmental parameters (e.g. food...
